Architecture Integrated into the Landscape: Samuso Hyojadong

Seo Seungmo (principal, Samuso Hyojadong) has always likened an architect to a cook. He thinks that the point of departure in cooking is fertile ground, that the theme is dictated by the programme of space, and that the spectrum of taste is controlled by the factors of sunlight and surrounding environment. This justifies why he can express his works through a vague vocabulary like adjectives of ‘light’ or ‘flattering’. ‘Seo Seungmo’, says Son Jean (principal, ison architects), ‘is an intuitive and sensible architect’, but all of his activities are based on his attitude observing closely the trivial aspects of everyday life and considering a user’s life. Now we will observe the origins of his tendency ‘not to disturb the surroundings’ and how it is consciously embodied through his architecture.
