Wisnu House

Jakarta is situated in a humid, tropical climate. With a temperature range from 28 - 32°C and a humidity of around 90%, buildings should be designed to shelter activities that suit the people during the day. Air conditioning is a common shortcut, but there will always be ways to challenge this tendency. The programming of spaces is an opportunity to create a spacious feeling in a very limited space. Rainy season lasts for half a year, exposing the houses to extreme conditions.

Combining these issues, the Wisnu House tried to absorb all the problems, yet tried to compromise the lack of space to create a new character for a new architecture in Jakarta. Not a luxury of materials, but a luxury of space; a juxtaposition of smooth and rough surfaces. The site given is a challenge in itself. Different levels of land guided the architect to confront the idea of flowing spaces, giving us the pleasure to be intimidated by the openness of the rooms below and the sufficient privacy on the upper level.
