On May 1, Tate Modern invited visitors to the major solo exhibition of the artist Do Ho Suh, ¡®The Genesis Exhibition: Do Ho Suh: Walk the House¡¯. Presented in collaboration with Genesis Art Initiatives, the exhibition captures the various places and cities that the artist once called ¡®home¡¯. For the artist, a house is an object that can be disassembled, transported and reassembled in a new location. Charting three decades of his practice, including large-scale installations, sculptures, videos and drawings, Suh successfully visualises his concept of an imaginary and transportable ¡®home¡¯. His latest installation, Nest/s (2024), and Perfect Home: London, Horsham, New York, Berlin, Providence, Seoul (2024) will be unveiled to the public for the first time. Nest/s, offers an immersive experience, prompting visitors to walk through a series of in-between spaces and rooms from buildings in Seoul, New York, London and Berlin. A key to understanding the work is ¡®fabric architecture¡¯, 1:1 scale structures sewn from a translucent yet colourful fabric. Meanwhile, Perfect Home: London, Horsham, New York, Berlin, Providence, Seoul extends these experiences to encounter smaller details such as doorknobs, switches and electrical outlets to reflect the idea of the ¡®perfect home¡¯ as it exists in his memory. This exhibition explores his notion of a home, from the hanok, a traditional Korean house, in which Suh spent his early life, to his current apartment in London. It will welcome visitors until Oct. 19.
