On July 15, Jinju City selected ¡®Roof for Everyone¡¯, a proposal by Archihood W¡¿Y (Co-Principals, Kang Woohyun, Kang Youngjin) as the winning entry in the Naedong Cultural Complex Center Design Proposal Competition. The competition called for the development of a community facility of up to two storeys, with a gross floor area (GFA) of 600m©÷ on a 3,800m©÷ site. The project aims to establish a basic living hub for Naedong-myeon, addressing disparities in access to cultural and welfare services across the region, and further strengthening the local community, revitalising the local economy, and promoting balanced development between the central hub and its surrounding villages.
The winning team responded to the project¡¯s limited scale and budget by actively bringing outdoor spaces into the building. Multiple gaps were created between building volumes to connect circulation routes around the site while encouraging access from multiple directions. A single expansive roof then covers these volumes, allowing the intervening outdoor spaces to be actively used. Designed as community spaces where residents can spend time at their own convenience, the outdoor areas are connected to a spacious multipurpose courtyard to the south, enabling the Center to accommodate a variety of events. The proposal was highly praised for creating open spaces capable of flexibly accommodating changes. The jury also looked favorably on the decision to preserve an old tree that had long stood at one corner of the site and to create a courtyard for residents around it. The Naedong Cultural Complex Center is scheduled to complete its design by January 2028, with construction planned to commence in the first half of the year and completion targeted for the second half.
